I agree: George Lucas hates the idea that other people have taken ownership of his films and detests the fans. The Vader NOOOO is one example, but the best example is the insertion of Jar Jar Binks, surely Lucas' most reviled creation, into the end of Return of the Jedi.
The Clone War CGI cartoon is eh, whatever. Looks crap to me. Never watched it.

Open Range had the following things going for it:
- beautiful cinematography of staggering scenery
- Robert Duvall chewing the scenery in a hilarious turn
- an awesome climactic gunfight
I don't think he's really tried to tour the US. Based on where he plays and the music he makes, he is a real Nova Scotia kind of guy. Maybe he doesn't really care about the US.
