That's a weird thing to say. It sort of implies that men can only write for men and women only write for women.

Escape from New York is a great movie. But when I'm tired and depressed, Escape from L.A. is my go to movie. It's just so gleefully stupid. And the ending and the soundtrack are awesome.

Or anything pythagorean besides the theorem. That'd make people listen.

There are now a number of "fair trade" travel and trekking agencies which try to ensure that all this money does indeed profit the Sherpas and their families rather than exploit them, which is good news.

Come on, he is obviously having some sort of life crisis, and he is awkward and all, and she is teaching him how to let go and enjoy life and all that. Isn't it the cutest ?

Indeed I had forgotten about those flying ships. I usually focus on the last prodigium because I've always found it awesomely funny. But we might have the basis of a SF novel or stupid movie, or even TV show. Romans and aliens. My take on it is they'd just kick their asses and assimilate the technology.

London bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down…
Now try getting that out of your head !

Given the size of that monstrosity, you can probably live in it anyway.

Thanks ! There should be a book somewhere about this. Your last point (in the edit) is especially interesting, I think.

That's actually a fairly good question. What was the first time an alien was imagined and depicted ? One might think that the people living on the moon described by Lucian were among the first, but since it's mostly used for satire… I really have no clue about the beginning of the modern aliens.

On an only very slightly related note, was anyone else really excited about the Hermione sailing this summer ? She is an absolutely gorgeous ship, and knowing that she was entirely built using XVIIIth c. methods makes it all the more impressive. https://www.youtube.com/wat…

I'll just go and rewatch the Hornblower series minus the inexplicably crappy 3rd and 4th episodes.

The question is : can the NSA see them ?

You should have typed that with your perfect twin disqus account.

As far as weird linguistic concepts go, there were some fairly fascinating ideas in China Mieville's Embassytown, with a race of alien that has to "perform" similes in order to create words and concepts.

So it'll be like the next linguistic step. People communicating exclusively through memes. I can see the society evolving into a caste system because of this. Some memes being reserved to some people and all that. I think I'll go try my hand at a dystopian YA novel now.

It's a huge gain of time. They'll just fit it in a commercial break.

Don't forget the badass accountant, el contador

Either way, potentially hurtful. Can edges can be sharp.

The headline piles unappetizing on unappetizing. First Budweiser, then "imbued with Metallica's essence". Ew.
