I feel like this is based off my post in the last Community episode thread. It was very well-received (4 likes!) and as such must have started a firestorm of argument in the AV Club. Please send me a check for $5,000 and all will be forgiven. I am not a nut job.

I'm not following you at all. I'm not saying his good looks are hindering his acting, I'm saying it's hindering his career as a director.

Ben Affleck's good looks really hurt his career.

Anyone who says "I need more pathos in a show where a man in tights punches a clown" is from a different planet than me.

"Usually?" When was the last time an American sitcom ended with strong character evolution from beginning to end?

I don't know what AV Club expects is possible from Community. Let me explain by showing what Community has delivered up this point:

Quite honestly, having Bruce Lee NOT stopping a craze serial killer whose crimes are patterned off episodes of The Green Hornet is a big step up for Hollywood. Though if they're still interested in that nonsense, I have a spec script where Hermann Rorschach (who looks a lot like Brad Pitt, hint, hint) must stop a

They actually filmed in Decatur, IL where ADM is headquartered and the actual scandal took place ( I went to high school with a couple students whose dads did time for it). Pretty much everyone in town got their picture taken with Matt Damon who was super nice.

The Movieplex preview channel (with Western Wednesdays and Mystery Fridays!) introduced young sleepyirv to some of the oddest forgotten movies of the 70s and 80s. Now I can't remember any of their titles.

"He's in Paris studying buffoon."

Okay, I'll confess I would pay money to hear Vince Vaughn describe 1980s movies.

They've seen the X-Men movie but they just call him Patrick Stewart.

"The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" while a great episode of TV, probably would have worked better as a full feature. While it's easy to imagine the situation unraveling quickly, it probably wouldn't have gotten out of hand THAT quickly as anyone who has been through a power outage (i.e. everyone) can attest.

Most urban police departments don't exist in a world where Clayface is a thing.

A SEA MONSTER ATE MY ICE CREAM!!!

Exactly. The humor is low-key with characters who are completely NOT low-key. Apparently that doesn't work.

This episode appears to be from an alternate universe where there's a HBO series where Patrick Wilson plays a doctor going through an existential crisis after his wife leaves him. I can intuitively  understand the purpose of "One Man's Trash" serves in that universe. Joshua sleeps with a self-involved hipster chick

My favorite Shining theory is that it's about the gold standard.

Being a big city mayor is unlike any other political office out there (which is why so few of them ever go on to higher office.) You basically have to behave like a feudal lord to get anything done and that certainly attracts certain types of chracters. It's a shame that the Tommy Carcetti Wire spinoff never got off

I would sorta prefer Bob Newhart waking up from another dream.
