Apparently the pitch for Aquaman went in a really weird direction.

Do you think the producers checked IMDB and screamed to the cast, "Hey guys, don't worry! We're not even going to be the worst thing release that week! No one will remember this!"

It contains my favorite "we suddenly recognize this situation is ridiculous" moment ever: "This is a billion dollar company. Demerits? Donnie, give Kenneth a damn jacket!"

I find David Wong be hilarious when he's not in self-righteous, I'm-going-to-drop-some-harsh-truths mode. The fact he linked to The Last Psychiatrist got a good eye roll from me. But when he's funny- John Dies at the End is great, a total must read (though with a few rough spots here and there).

The level of the stakes never matter to me in a story. What matters is that I invest in the characters and the characters are deeply invested in the stakes. For example, I care far more about whether the villagers of Ffynnon Garw will be able to add enough dirt to their hill in "The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill and

The sad thing is I came up with a BETTER version of this when I was 14.

While watching Lucky Number Slevin, I worried that I been sent back 7 years in time  when Tarantino ripoffs roamed wild and free. It's like the last script to escape the 90s alive.

I always assume Gabriel to be an outlier for the time that happens to capture our attention today because it's a Hollywood film that's pro-fascism. All of the 1930s political films I have seen tend to be really anti-corruption compared to having a blatant political message.

Coach Carter, your basic inspirational sports movie (Though Samuel Jackson turns it into something wonderful. It's basically what if Jules Winnfield coached a basketball team.) has a high school abortion. That's probably keeping it off the list of movies lazy gym teachers show their classes.
