I've seen most of those (haven't seen Huckabees or Lost in Translation yet), and I'll give most of those (with the exception of Fahrenheit 9/11) 5's or 4's, but I think Napoleon Dynamite is definately a 2. I think it's funny, but it's stylized junk compared to most of those films.
I thought this was the film's controversy
Initially, when it was released there was a relative defecit of films or anything in the mainstream that adressed 1) the utilization of visual and characteristic quirks (Wes Anderson comes to mind) 2) DIY 3) post-post-punk preciousness and 4) 80's materialistic fetishism. So…
In the not to distant future, next Sunday A.D., ZODIAC MOTHERFUCKER FUCKING OWNS YOUR BITCH ASS
Revisionist time!
Which means there will be no steering missles off the course of SEGA Headquarters.
Wikipedia says that Matador called it for next year. I guess just in time for the reunion. Supposedly it's subtitled "Farewell Horizontal Edition", though I can't find any sources. The internet's clogged up with the reunion news.
…and in conclusion, one can be a fan of Mingus while finding Rush relatively annoying.
Silence Kit/d
Fakebook is representative in personality but not much in sound, since it is mostly acoustic, but get it along the way since it's a must-hear. Just to be on the safe side, my recommendation is just to get any of the other ones mentioned first.
It's a great cover, but I always felt as far as bonus tracks go (and I'm a supporter of the concept) that this one's as intrusive and inconsistent as they come. Not only does it screw with the great sequencing, but the song is from the tail end of their career, with a much different lineup and sound.
One of the best penultimate songs ever
It's true that this album builds a ton of momentum from the silent opening all the way to the title track, and it gets much of it from "Raised Eyebrows".
Films of his I haven't seen yet: Munchausen, Brothers Grimm, Tideland. Not on purpose, considering the history behind them. I love just about everything this guy does, so it sucks I'll have to be wary going in to see Parnassus. At least it's not mediocre.
Hey, Mr. Tough
…don't you think we've suffered enough?
I caught this series midway through Winter 1152, having to pick up the pieces and work my way backwards… but the work here's so good that I didn't care having to deal with that… and I think the third series is going to center around Blackaxe, which sounds pretty darn promising. Can't wait.
Tosse Todo Mundo Tossindo
hah!
haha!
…AGH!
I know the "random, go-nowhere mindfuckery" they're talking about, but even if your expectations are straightforward, that element only comprises 1/18th of the show…. and, like everyone said. It's all deliberate anyway.
Which means more massive damage for your money's worth.
The last three episodes are my favorite. With Willem Dafoe and Dennis Hopper.
Jackie Brown's my favorite. From a local perspective, it's also a cool time capsule of the setting in that point in time.
