Yeah, that's precisely how I felt. Tarkovsky's film is definitely well made and full of beautiful moments, but it just didn't work for me as well as Soderbergh's.

@avclub-501c54d131c3b93043a744af0c259c58:disqus, I had a similar problem with Maniac (i.e., not buying Munro's attraction to Spinell). I also had a difficult time believing Spinell's character could flip the switch and act normal and charming so easily. I think it might have been sold better if that's how we'd first…
I saw Solaris when it came out on DVD, and I dug the hell out of it. I even enjoyed it more than Tarkovsky's, which I understand to be some sort of blasphemy.
I'm not altogether sure I see the comparison/contrast between House of the Devil and Drag Me to Hell aside from the fact that both involve hell-related things. The styles and intentions of both films were entirely different.
There was a scene in the first Expendables movie where Stallone put a guy in a headlock and then dropped to the ground, using his entire body weight to break the guy's neck. Now that I can actually buy.

I think the clip you chose is interesting because the corresponding scene in Quarantine shows how well done the [REC] version is. In Quarantine, the directors made certain that the area in which the fireman is about to land is clear and visible in the camera, essentially telegraphing what is about to happen. In [REC]…

@avclub-dcba99a1a61afca8c781bf90591eb4cd:disqus [SPOILERS for Inside] Yep, my thoughts exactly. I had a feeling I was in trouble when the protagonist was unable to distinguish the sound of her own mother's voice and was then somehow able to hit a major vein or artery with a knitting needle. By the time the police…

@avclub-b20754d0f1e8ae843e00a8b39a667112:disqus Personally, I'd say don't trust the hype on Inside unless you're okay with horror films in which characters behave like complete idiots for no other reason than the fact that the movie would be over in twenty minutes if they didn't. (As it is, it's only 82 minutes.)…

@avclub-fbb1d0aa8eb214a2ce4aec289a3c6b6d:disqus Yeah, that's the one! Disney made it an exclusive for their DVD club, and it's impossible to find either season for less than $100.

Yeah, it is a pretty decent movie. I just wish Zorro didn't spend most of the movie out of costume (and revealing his secret identity to everyone). Mask of Zorro is probably my favorite Zorro film, even if it's more of a reboot of the character.

@avclub-2abf2b82c099047f2d089c7e7abe42b1:disqus It depends on one's tastes, I suppose. Seeing as how I'm one who hates the camp excesses of most of the Moore entries and prefers more straightforward espionage tales, For Your Eyes Only is one of the few Moore Bonds I can actually stand to watch. (Seriously, I fucking…
