I must agree, although my reason for preferring Frankenstein to Bride has more to do with Bride's out-and-out camp approach to the material. While I understand that it was more in keeping with Whale's sensibilities,—he obviously preferred black comedy to legitimate horror—it's just difficult for me to watch the scene

I was just watching the making-of featurette on the Blu-Ray a couple weeks ago, and with the exception of all the mystical claptrap, Zita Johann sounds like she was an awesome lady! I especially loved the story about how, when Johann wanted to change her performance in such a way that altered the blocking of the scene

The Aero Theatre in Santa Monica is screening a new digital 3D "print" of Creature on Halloween! After years of missing previous 3D screenings for some reason or another, I'm finally going to be able to check it out, and it won't be in the crappy red-and-blue anaglyph process. I'm so stoked!

Glad to know I'm not the only one who finds Chaney to be a pretty bad actor. I've never cared much for any of his performances. He was severely miscast in Son of Dracula.

The Spanish-language Dracula is a mixed bag, unfortunately. Aside from the lack of Bela Lugosi, Dwight Frye, and Edward Van Sloan, the fact that it runs about 30 minutes longer makes it drag about as much as the English version. If they'd kept it to a tighter pace, I think I'd have no problem declaring it the superior

A year ago, that would have been apt.

Yeah, The Black Cat was pretty ahead of its time. I remember also watching The Raven (1935) around the same time and thinking, "Huh. I guess the Saw franchise is even less original than it thinks it is than I initially believed." (Unfortunately, The Raven isn't nearly as good as The Black Cat, and Lugosi's line, "Poe,

You're not the only one. Slant Magazine, which usually never likes anything, named Halloween II one of the "25 Best Horror Films of the Aughts."

Hurwitz is currently on The Dark Knight, which is much better now that David Finch is just sticking with the art and no longer attempting to write it.

It looks like Batwing and Batman Incorporated are the only titles that will remain out of this crossover. There will also
