I always saw it as more of a "will she/won't she" ever escape Charlie's stalking and influence than something where romance was in any way possible. The Purple Man and Jessica Jones are about as healthy of a couple as Charlie and The Waitress.

Bone Tomahawk is a tough sell. I keep hearing good things about it, but i also hear its length and genre and content in those recommendations. I think i might have been a lot better off experiencing it blind, but there's also no way i'd have found/picked it blind.
