Another great short-story writer: Steven Millhauser. Who is actually probably the best short story writer living today.

He is, but eventually. It's not even that long off since the Voldemort in Order of the Phoenix is already far more grounded than the one in Goblet.

I originally read "Girlfriend in a Coma" as "Garfield in a Coma," and was subsequently disappointed when I realized "Garfield Minus Garfield" didn't get its own TV show.

Mine was when Jack, during a focus group meeting, tells all these obese people that if they say they like his changes to the show, he'll give them pizza.

While I have no problems with that approach, I can tell you the exact moment that I checked out of this book. In fact, I have the passage right here since I haven't had a chance to get to the library yet.

Goblet of Fire, the movie, is such an odd duck and Newell was probably the worst choice and best choice of director to have a go at it.

Do you count the last one as one or two movies? Because from Half-Blood Prince onward, I thought they were exceptional. (The other great entry is Prisoner of Azkaban.)

Just wrapped the series and thought the same thing. I mean, I was biting my nails down to the fingers during the whole thing, but there was a little bit of me that felt cold after that big reveal.

At the same time, he had to know by then more and more women were reading comic books because of the Sandman series, or at least were reading The Sandman series, so it's probably safe to assume that that factoid was kicking around in the back of his mind.

Whoops! Thanks!

How do you think these stories would be different if they were quote-unquote girl stories? Similarly, how would that change what happens in The Kindly Ones?

The other great thing is that you don't have to know about the DCU to know what's going on in Sandman. When I first read this collection, I thought the storm was the events of the Kindly Ones.

It makes sense this collection would be the gap between "Brief Lives" and "Kindly Ones," since "Game of You" culminated in Morpheous doing in his son in an act of kindness and his own sort of repentance, and the stories that flash through here all involve him helping these other characters out of sticky situations.

Even from an early age, he was always such a joker.

McTiernan is also the go-to director for the Tracksuit Mafia.

@Scrawler2:disqus You do have a point, especially because one guy was like, "Please don't torture me again" before opening up to Jessica Chastain. And would the bluff earlier have worked?

I'm having trouble buying into D'Angelo's arguments here, especially because he says that this film, "Zodiac," and "United 93" all chickened out. But I feel like he's missing the fundamental point of a storytelling and drama.

I dunno. I thought the movie made a very clear point in showing the torture interrogations did nothing to gather information. Most of the relevant stuff from their insurgents or whatever came over lunch or high bribery and flattery.
