My goodness, that clip of Kristen Bell on Ellen with the sloth is hilarious.  I haven't seen her in anything except Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  Is she always this awesome?

While I agree with the static nature of Malick's aesthetic and narrative approach across his handful of films, I don't find that "one trick pony argument" to be terribly persuasive as his naysayers would like it to be.  For example, was Alfred Hitchcock a one trick pony also?  For me, it's completely beside the point

I'm always happy to see To Kill a Mockingbird get a nod of any sort but it is, as the writeup suggests, a bit of a stretch to say that the opening credits are better than the movie to follow when the movie that follows is indeed very strong if not great.  This scene in particular always sticks out in my mind, it's

I've never really understood the "I know you've supported me a long time / Somehow I'm not impressed" line very much.  The fact that it's followed by "New York cares" just makes it confusing for me.  Thoughts?  Or is there just nothing to read into there?

It actually took me a while to come around to this album.  I liked a few of the songs when I first bought it but I wasn't "feeling it" the way I did, say, Bloc Party's Silent Alarm … which I got into around the same time (unfotunately, I wasn't listening to indie rock or whatever at the time of TOTBL's release).

Every few years it's like I rehear that song for the first time and I pick up on some other aspect of it like the song's brand new to me.  It used to be the guitars as @avclub-ca157d1a1382fd3eb266129b96bdba74:disqus  says but now I'm really really digging Paul's vocal performance on that track.

I actually don't really get the love for Inside Man.  There's nothing wrong with it, certainly - but it also doesn't stand out for me in any sort of way.  It's competent and workman-like in how it goes about its business but that's about all I can say about it.

Yeah, maybe.  For me, I saw the movie as a sort of supernatural layer cake!  The top level is the conventional Evil Dead-type scare movie.  The next level down is the guys-in-the-lab Michael Crichton layer, ala Westworld or Jurassic Park.  Even further down is the Lovecraftian appease-the-old-gods layer.  And it's
