The Chaste quotations are spot-on parodies of early Sotos. His writing style has since improved significantly. More recent books aren't any more digestible in subject matter, but they lack the pseudo-Sade interjections that plague Pure.

I thought Di6's iconography choice had more to do with Douglas P.'s muniform fetishism than any sort of political beliefs. The band's work fits nicely into that The Night Porter/Salon Kitty "naughty Nazi" genre.

Isn't pumping out kids more the glam/hair metal lifestyle? The power metal guys I've known retreated from the land of girls into their Tolkien and sword collections.

Similar to Manowar in Germany, Iced Earth is hugely popular in Greece. Regardless of band's national origins, power metal tends to do better in Europe than the States.

How about worms/maggots?

Speaking of Jamie Gillis' scat, have you seen any of his private tapes? Half hour scat shows that make Water Power look like a harmless trifle. Highly recommended!

Steven: Thank you for your intelligent and informative respones. I know it would be easy to ignore these posts, or just tell me to fuck off, but the fact you've answered, and in a polite, conversational manner, is deeply appreciated.

I am curious why the AV Club makes some of the choices it makes. They don't have to review anything. They can only review things they love; they can review only the things they hate. Certain albums we expect to be reviewed by the Club, bands which have been embraced by the Club's readership. Some bands are discussed

Steven: Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. I'm more than happy to drop my initial question about why the album is being reviewed. The timing I'm still curious about, but that is ultimately inconsequential. And rest assured that this site has introduced me to new sounds I otherwise may not have heard.

Whe

I will disagree about the purported terribleness of the listed bands. They're not my favorites by a long stretch, but they have a place within the larger metal kingdom.

Reading the review, I'm unsure why this particular album sucked, as opposed to any other Evanescence albums. And if all Evanescene albums are going to suck by definition, why bother bringing them up? There are plenty of albums that The AV Club doesn't review though they perform well on the Billboard charts. And why

Why did The AV Club even bother reviewing this album. Evanescence is a band that, for some reason, hipsters are all but required to hate. Did anyone think Amy Lee would release an album that would rank any higher than a C-? It's too easy to write a diatribe about something that you and eveyone around you hates.

But

What is the best critical method for examining or grading exploitation films? Politics be damned, the point of this movie was to push the limits as far as they will go, and, as such, the film is a roaring success. In fact, A Serbian Film may represent the most "extreme" horror film currently available (even in it's

Emmanuelle in America has a woman masturbating a horse (for reals) and some genuinely nasty fake snuff footage. There's an uncut DVD from Blue Underground that's worth a watch.
