I remember being totally confused when my father read Tombs of Atuan to me at first, because I was so used to series where the main protagonist was always the focus of the story.  I probably asked him "Where's Ged?" half a dozen times before he finally showed up.

I read Hitchhiker's Guide and Tripods specifically because I'd seen the BBC series on late night PBS as a child.  Didn't get around to Tripods until my mid-20s, but it was a neat one.

I read Robots of Dawn because my dad bought me a text adventure based on it.  I ended up reading over a dozen Asimov books after that and loving most of them.

I never read the book, but the movie was a favorite of mine as a kid.  So damn creepy…to this day, every few years I'll have a nightmare about being stuck in a room full of spiders.

We read that in class in fifth grade, and the teacher had some sort of competition where the first person who could figure out the mystery won a prize.  I'm not sure if any of us won, but it was definitely a fun book.

Ah, another fan!

My choice of favorite author is contentious around here, but I read Stephen Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant in 8th grade.  I very nearly stopped and threw the first book out about 100 pages in, when (SPOILER) the main character commits rape.  But the way he ends up spending most of six books paying for that

I read the series in 8th grade, and nearly got in trouble in one class because I couldn't stop laughing at the scene between Marvin and the robot tank.  I had to bury my face in my arms to keep quiet.

"You like stand-offish dates?  We've got plenty!"

And swore never to yell again when he left the military, hence the soft-spokenness.

Oh no, you had to get that stuck in my head again…

No joke.  His name was Johnny Costa:

Why the fuck is a frog meowing??!

I absolutely love the piano player on his show, and wish I had even 10% of his talent.

Mister Rogers is so kind-hearted, after being forced to slaughter all the heroes/villains on Earth, he felt guilty enough to commit Seppuku.

I was totally surprised at how good Despicable Me was as well.  And the trailer for 2 looks like it could be funnier than the first one.

Dammit, I searched to make sure nobody had said that yet, but you had the stealth approach.

EDIT - Bah, never mind, I'm way too late.

Maybe this should be retitled "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Tratomlin Lilyjohn"

That's a secret room.  Break all of the plants, then jump up to the roof and knock down the pizza.  Walt Jr. will come out of the house to clean it up, leaving the door open to get the Bonus Brick in the breakfast nook.
