This is really kind of a coincidental musing, but with much respect to Tony Scott: the final act of "The Last Boy Scout" did whatever this movie does a lot better

Although seriously, the "Sideways" DVD is worth well buying. The Giamatti/Church commentary is so frigging hilarious, it just about doubles as a Rifftrax version of the film
