I like the weird synergy of the Bajoran mystic stuff.  I think the particular "dues ex machina" we all know is coming is timed perfectly to make two long term storylines synch up together in a way that a literal deus ex machina somehow doesn't feel like  cheat.

Not exactly.  The episode with the genetically engineered freaks has alot to do with the main storyline
