Also, many of us (looking at you, me) didn't have cable growing up, and had to actually take it upon ourselves to get out there and find these flicks on our own. Imagine that.

Alas, you'll have to take up smoking again. And strike matches off the soles of your shoes.

Oh, you lucky bastard.

Yep. I was their target market, a young buck horror hound who spent every weekend trawling the aisles at every video store in the neighborhood (which, in the '80s, was a lot) and devouring everything I could get my grubby little mitts on. I watched it dozens of times before the age of ten, memorizing every line,

Because you're a cynical, heartless bastard, that's why.

Thank you for this. Beautifully said.

For a more recent example of genre fusion, check out Apollo Sunshine's Shall Noise Upon, which gained brief notoriety due to its inclusion on Breaking Bad. Stylistically, it runs the gamut from sunshine pop and musique concrète to acoustic folk and country, with a heavy dose of psychedelia swathed across everything.

Funeral is a masterpiece, one of the most stylistically perfect albums ever made. There isn't a single wasted second therein, each song is of equally high quality, and the sequencing is sublime. Absolutely my favorite document of that whole era.

Lost Souls is hands down my favorite disc of 2000, and until I got into Arcade Fire's Funeral, was my favorite of the decade. What a gorgeous, magical, spellbinding record; it's as if the muse that had served Radiohead so well up through OK Computer departed during the Kid A sessions and settled on Doves instead.

Gough's a cool dude. My friend was crushed that he didn't get tickets in time to see Badly Drawn Boy in 2004, so he put out feelers on the fan page to see if anyone had any more, and Gough himself actually put us on the list, then hung out with us after the show. He was an intense close talker, but was very engaged in

Gimme Something Better covered this era extremely well already, straight from the mouths of those luminaries who were front and center from the start. Great, hilarious, insightful, trashy read.

Didn't Strummer catch hepatitis from gobbers?

Still their best record by far. White Blood Cells crystallized everything they were about, and Elephant represented their cultural peak, but De Stijl is the most precious, personal album they ever made. My best friend and I listened to nothing else as we drove around one summer; I later paid tribute by singing "Apple

I don't remember the nipple business. I guess I'll have to read it again. It's still probably my favorite King novel, apart from Misery. And I must be the only one who doesn't object to the Turtle.

The shot of Elsie Beckmann's balloon nestled against the power lines is one of the most chilling sights in all of cinema.

Dude…Ben is clearly the heart and soul of the book. Clearly.

This. needs. to. be. a. series. Stop with the movie adaptations of epic novels. TV is the only place they belong.

"This is something that the producers insist on — that there is a reason why the device is there. It’s not only a plasma TV. If you look at it, it has a ticker on the side with the NASDAQ status and the Dodgers score, and so on. Basically, it’s just like when you go to a coffee shop, it’s what you might find.” I think

My favorite instance occurs early in The Matrix, when Neo glances down at his phone as it spirals down the side of the building, lapsing into super slo-mo just long enough for us to read the word NEXTEL.

Yes, and you call them "braun" schweiger, despite the fact that they are obviously grilled.
