I remember hearing one of those end of decade roundups in 1990 that said Rush had gotten more rock radio airplay than any other band in the 1980's.    So in my mind that pushes them out of the "cult" category.

Depending on their age they could have had them being from the Eastern part of the country.   Before the Berlin wall fell it wasn't uncommon for people in the East to speak English but it wasn't as common as it was for people in the West.

@Slobitach:disqus : What I've read is that Page was so strung out on heroin that he couldn't write or play as much as usual.   So it left a vacuum that Plant and John Paul Jones filled.   I really liked most of Jones' contributions on the other albums, but it didn't work to have him leading the band.
