That is very true. But I enjoy his short works because they fell more like great movie scripts. Like if you paced out the the dialogue in a film narrative they would be enjoyable 2 hour movies.

God Emperor is my FAVORITE! Though having that with out clear and concise film versions of the 1st 3 books would be challenging.

Do your homework and read the books. Far more rewarding than the movie. Also, I recommend any other short story by Frank Herbert as well. "White Plague" and "Whipping Star" are among my favorites.
