Was it Friday night's performance?
I wasn't there but I saw MacRae dancing it last week and he was amazing.
Don Quixote is always so much fun, and they highlighted the comic elements even more than the other productions I have seen. I loved in particular how they did Basilio's "death".
For more slapstick nights at the

I wonder if anyone around here prioritises work over anything.

If we're talking full length, my favourite is probably Manon. Mayerling is also worth a look and is interesting in that it's probably the most ambitious attempt at storytelling in ballet, while successful, it might have been too ambitious, it's the only piece I've seen where the synopsis was printed in the cast sheets

I think I've seen it lying around somewhere, but was wondering if there was a legit release somewhere.
Actually, after a quick search, a there seems to be a German one. Don't know about subtitles, but I can live without.

That's a heavy week…
I'm guessing Out 1 is the whole thing? Where did you find it?

Books

I like Vineland too! I'm about where you are in Bleeding Edge, and while I like it well enough, so far, I'm not really drawn or blown away as I've been by his other stuff (I still have to read GR and IV).

Internship in London: it depends on what your field is, I work in media so exploitation tends to be the rule, as it is in many other fields.
I know Lurky is in the UK, but my experience contradicts his claim that you can expect mininum wage (again media).
I very much encourage you to come to London, it is a wonderful

I think three is a record, and they all seem to be new names.

I just assumed it was the repetitive editing, I'm given to understand this was always the case.
At least you can still see the posts now.

I am curious about Luminaries if only because I love successful massive tomes, but I've been reading a few too many lately, so need to feel like I'm actually finishing some books.
I may give it a try once it's published in paperback though.

I understand the need for periodic break during Mason & Dixon, but I'm surprised and impressed that you went for something with a difficult reputation as well (my breaks were a bunch of Jeeves and Wooster books).
Dune is amazing, one of the few sci-fi books I've liked, it might be due for a re-read though as it was

To be fair I don't expect great things from it, a combination of subject matter/supporting a small publisher/well since it made the frontlist was what made me buy it. I'll let you know if it's worth your time.
I recently grabbed The Testament of Mary and We Need New Names as well (didn't think about them as I didn't

My main gripe is that posting from a tablet is close to impossible.

Mmmm, burgers…

I seem to remember that you were planning to read the whole Booker longlist, is that indeed the case?
I have The Marrying of Chani Kaufman in my to-read list (already bought), and I was wondering if you had/were planning to read it? It might be nice to read something someone else is reading for once.

Don't you get the replies directly by loading more comments? That's what I was hoping for.

Just finished Meir Shalev's My Russian Grandmother and Her American Vacuum Cleaner. More than the tale in the title, it is a very sweet family portrait of Israeli settlers before the independance. It manages to not be overly quirky or cloying, and makes for a very pleasant read.

Woohoo! Congratulations! Glad it turned out for the best.
