if you love cold war espionage check out the Game, Set, Match trilogy by Len Deighton.  It's light on the action, but heavy on the double meaning and straight-faced office politics and tension.  Apparently they made a BBC mini-series starring Ian Holm, but Deighton wasn't pleased with the results and thus has buried…

that shit was awful.  i actually just came across my wife's copy of it on VHS last night.  pulled the tape out and stuffed it into the recycle bin just so i wouldnt be tempted to watch it again, cause it _should_ be so awesome, but its just plain shit.
