Ha! I hadn't read the summary. It'll be interesting to see where this goes…

Yeah, the Gizmodo article called it his "tic" in his eye, which I thought was interesting and cool.

Hey Lt. Brock (reposted). I do agree with you on Stranger Things. I don't hate it or anything, but am a bit unsure what the point of it is beyond featuring all the various genre stuff enjoyed by the Duffer Brothers. That's fine and all. I guess if something's going to be made up of nothing but tributes, I want it to

I'm actually wondering if the second half of the show, which is supposed to debut next year, is going to focus on punk. Not sure how it would tie any of the current arcs, so we'll see. Or they could just nix it altogether.

I'm pretty sure it's a mix. Aesthetically, the filmmakers do a great job of making it all look part of the same world, but I think I remember some of the original characters popping up in some of the grainier stuff. I could be wrong though.

Yep. From the official synopsis (I'm pretty sure this was the description of it on Netflix for a while, too): “The Get Down is a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk, and disco.”

Sorry, forgot to mention that it's every other weekday. So Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!

One of my faves!

Yeah, I'm hoping they give him something to do beyond being angry, abusive, and obsessive. It'd be nice to see a moment of actual kindness between them. That'd create some more tension and conflict in the relationship.

Hmmm, I haven't thought of that, but maybe? Then again, I feel that Mylene's arc is so tied to her cultural heritage that they're maybe going for something different. We'll see though. The spirituality/disco connection you mentioned is definitely valid.

I'll go back and check!

Goddamnit, you're right.

I had actually wondered about that. I'm not a DJ myself, but the scenes between Ezekiel and Shaolin, along with Flash's explanation of the craft seemed like they were pretty realistic. Very cool stuff!

Yeah, sort of a weird inverse. You think Luke Cage would be the hammier of the two shows.

Actually, no, you're right. I think they just started at the end where the "Hup…2, 3, 4" part comes in.

It's definitely the same song, but the Get Down one sounds slightly different—a little more exuberant. Wonder if it's a cover…

YES! Adding it to the list. Thanks much!

No, it could only be a blues album if they recorded it in Sweet Hooome Chicago! And it'd have to be called Fishing Blues (The Blues Are BACK).

Haha, I knew I was gonna get shit for that. But there's only so much room, and while I dig "When The Lights Go Out," it didn't make for one of the more pronounced talking points when reviewing it. I do love that staggered end rant from Kool Keith though—does kind of sum his philosophy nicely.

Thank you! And keep commenting. I really do like interacting (and disagreeing) with readers as much as I can—with the folks who are nice and constructive, at least.
