Ugh, really. He's invincible aside from his super-weakness, MacGuffins.

For real, his high school jock story petered out because high school was three years ago. Besides, isn't he only at Greendale because he lost a football scholarship to injury? Pair that with hanging out with a band of lovable misfits and he's going to forget about football all together. That IS character…

This is by far the best part of Castle:
I remember sitting in my Catholic school kindergarten class and thinking, "Yeah, so, we're not being serious, right?" So I don't think I can attribute it to any particular work.

@avclub-e383ed48552c78a3796781f3454fc7e8:disqus I worry about this getting the benefit of the doubt for a long time just because it's on HBO. Aside from what you mentioned, the network has so many hits that it's loath to admit a miss, so I see it unjustifiably letting this dreck go at least one more season.

Wow, the original "Tainted Love" is WAY better than the cover.

Seinfeld was actually terrible at foreshadowing. If something was referenced or established without being the subject of a joke, you knew it was coming back. That kind of kills the surprise aspect of comedy.

Crime procedurals do that all the time, with the CSI guys constantly reminding each other of the chemical components of harspray and the Criminal Minds people reciting the signs of schizophrenia for the team. I appreciate they did that for my benefit, but it takes me out of the story when I realize that these people…

Or "Why are we doing this again?" Though, I guess that's the price you pay for starting your wacky hijinks in medias res.

I love the Wawa references on that show. I imagine west coast people couldn't even tell you whether that's a place or some kind of racial slur.

Yeah but even bros and rednecks know there's a Bud Light and a Coors Light and sometimes they even have a preference. And heavy smokers definitely do brand loyalty.
