Yeah, I wouldn't have gone in for those kinds of prices. Hair cuts were $24, beard trim just $8. Things are insanely cheap in Portland. Routinely paying just $4-5 for a pint of good beer was delightful.

I'm reading Going Clear, Lawrence Wright's exhaustive book on Scientology. I know nobody paying attention actually has a positive impression of the CoS these days, but still, unless you go in expecting regular ritualistic beheadings, the amount and enormity of egregious, horrific acts carried out by officials in the…
I went to this place called The Modern Man in Portland that does traditional mens barber services, which is cool, but the best part is you receive a complimentary small-batch whiskey and cigar afterwards. I got a beard trim and line-up before the wedding I was in town for and it was pretty phenomenal; I'd never had a…
Beer Thread!
On my last day visiting Portland I found out that an Eastern European food cart in the Pearl District sells khachapuri, a kind of Georgian cheese bread I hadn't had since I studied in Russia. I scrambled over to get some and it was SO worth it.

He's clearly getting ready for a lap dance in that picture.
I like my porn on the rocks, with a twist.
Just in case anybody thinks @avclub-4a51fda79bbd54b4e7327dd6559b6c4d:disqus's comment was just a joke:
Forget Giordano's, forget Uno, forget Lou Malnatti's. Go to Pequad's instead. A bit off the tourist track in Lincoln Park, but since wait times at the first three range 1-2 hours, it all evens out. And Pequad's is better for Chicago style. Neighborhoody, relaxed, with an amazing caramelized crust.
Let me know what you think of that Avery DIPA. I like a lot of Avery's stuff but their anniversary ales can be really hit-or-miss IMO.
@TheSensitiveGhostOfSethPu:disqus I think Founders' flagships are all quite nice but it's the more limited beers that really built their (deserved) reputation. Hold off on final judgment until you try Kentucky Breakfast Stout, Backwoods Bastard or CBS.
