Thanks for the rec!

I had a graphic that got cut for time. Trying to post it here in the comments, but Kinja won’t let me.

It is not easy to make a tree like that! If either of those cookies broke, he was fucked. And cutting/baking them so perfectly they slid together without a hitch? 10x more difficult than Giuseppe’s rice krispy centerpiece.

The Longest Day — John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Richard Burton, Henry Fonda, Red Buttons, Sean Connery, Curd Jürgens, Paul Anka, Rod Steiger, Fabian, Roddy McDowell… the joke was that the cast of the movie about D-Day rivaled the size of the original.

The original Magnificent Seven had a pretty unbeatable cast, as the sequel demonstrated by casting Chris Pratt in the Steve McQueen role

Kicking it old school here, the first movie that popped into my mind was The Great Escape.

Pacino and DeNiro head to head. Throw in Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Danny Trejo, Jon Voight, Ashely Judd on the cusp of bigger stardom, and more for good measure. Heat. Personal all time fave.

I will throw in my vote here for one of my all-time favorites: Silverado. Kevins Kline and Costner, Danny Glover, Brian Dennehy, Jeff Goldblum, Rosanna Arquette, Linda Hunt, John Cleese (of all people), the list just goes on and on. Everyone turns in a magnificent performance and it is SO MUCH FUN!

I’m always sorry when a strong baker doesn’t make it to the final but I don’t think Jurgen going home here was unfair. His Murder at the Opera slices looked less polished than everyone else’s efforts and I didn’t think his showstopper looked that good. The little boats looked messy and the bridge was weirdly sinister

Here’s my stray observations:

Is Crystelle possibly the best decorator who’s ever been on this show?

I will absolutely eat your centerpiece if you make it edible.

What a strong fucking cast this season. We’re completely spoiled. Jürgen was so sweet to the other bakers and I’ll miss him, but I do feel like it makes sense even though Paul was being extra dipshit. The technical felt like everyone did kind of bad, Jürgen was just least bad.

Did anyone notice that Noel’s zipper was down during the introduction of the technical round? Visible in several shots as if Noel bribed the camera crew to showcase it. Ok, childish observation out of the way.

I can’t get mad because I think they all stayed pretty much even with nice results most of the time. If this was an American show they may have even concocted a “In an hour do a bake of any kind which reflects YOU” or some such nonsense as a tie-breaker. It could have been any of them—pick a chair and sit down fast whe

You forgot about the French.

This might very well be the best season of the post-Mary Berry era.

I was going to feel bad about whoever went home! This season has had the biggest number of bakers I liked in the tent, I think.

I was hoping that in the final it would be between the three types of people the english hate most, a German, an Italian, and a woman.

Citrus and sesame are a classic combo, so yuzu+black sesame sounds amazing!
