Next month it’ll be 22 years as well since my mom died. All the best, Janet, and blessings upon you & yours. Like Paulina, I suspect that Cameron’s story has inspirational possibilities.
The fight scenes were a lot of fun, especially Sportsmaster vs Hourman - I know from TMNT that some dude with a sports fixation can be a formidable opponent but I didn’t expect Sportsmaster to be so...ruthless? “Good for you, kid. That looks heavy.”
You misspelled Legends of Tomorrow.
I keep wondering if Alan and Jay are REALLY dead or if they just went into deep hiding. Both had the powersets to potentially do so- or possibly the Thunderbolt was able to secret one of them away. One of the very, very best things about Johns’ JSA runs was the mentorship between the elder statesmen and the next…
I would actually like to see Mike get the Thunderbolt. It would be a complete accident with him just using the pen and writing “see you”. It seems like the kind of mischief the Thunderbolt would be into and it would raise the stakes for Pat and Courtney considerably. And I’m still not giving up on the creepy janitor…
Sportsmaster? Seriously? This Casey Jones wannabe has no chance of actually being intimidati...

... holy shit!
Well done show. You got everything right this week - even Mike. Well, maybe not everything right. Amy Smart continues to be underused. But beyond that, everything in this one was great.
It…
Batman if Batman was the gym coach you hated.
They were pretty much toying with the kids for the entire fight. The only one who actually gave them a bit of trouble was Courtney and even then it was clear that they didn’t really see her as anything more than a nuisance.
I’ve got the idea that the two villains were just trying to stall the JSA until mission was accomplished and then they decided if they could kill the JSA well but if not, not a problem. I mean, they did not seem to be trying hard. That is why I bought the survival of the team. Also, Courtney’s staff do it quite well.…
I loved the whole “Baseballs? Haha, that’s ridic-hey! Ow!” aspect of the fight.
The show is just delightful. I get Power Rangers/The OC/Runaways vibes from it. I think there hasn’t been a comic book show quite like this, even Runaways shied away from some of the more comic-book-y elements to an extent.
Sportsmaster will always be hokey as hell - but they at least made him *impressively* hokey. That was some great choreography and cinematography for the fight scenes.
I’m not convinced Mike has a mom. If they revealed he was a 90’s kid character that spontaneously combusted into life during a JSA adventure and got dumped him on Pat, I’d believe it.
If no one can recognise Supergirl why would they be able to figure out who Tigress is?
The costumes are pretty weirdly mixed. I know they’re not going for ‘sensible’, but the golden age thing needs to hit a certain degree of ‘cool’ to counterbalance the ‘silly’.
I still want to know what happened to Mike’s mom/Pat’s (ex?)-wife. Is she dead? Divorced? Is she a supervillain that Pat is trying to keep away from Mike?

As a long time JSA fan, starting from the All-Star Squadron and Infinity Inc comics in the early 80s, here’s my hot takes on the episode:
Nice to see Courtney’s mom get more to do and her step brother not being a mini-douche.
Loved the mini twist involving the Gambler’s cat. Hoping his granddaughter…
I’m loving the campy feel. They looked so much like people that was going to ask for candy outside someones door. Gonna be fun to see what will happen next.
