Upon first viewing, I found the ending a bit frustrating. On second viewing, I actually loved the ending's just-off tone as it seemed to parallel the cartoon scenes from earlier, as others have pointed out.

I agree with the main argument this essay makes about the ways men treat women. That said, I thought that B99 was sort of going after/critiquing dudes who act like Boyle. I don't think we were ever supposed to be shipping him and Rosa or anything—that the joke was that he was pathetic and behaving inappropriately.
But it's not interesting, because all it really amounts to are folks accusing other folks of having preconceived notions, and the people with the preconceived notions denying it. It will never go anywhere, and it's gotten pretty insufferable, already.
I was about to make a Star Trek joke about Landrew, but then I remembered that it's spelled Landru in "Return of the Archons." I got nothing.
I had a very similar response. It started to make me feel bad, then I remembered the procedurals it was parodying, and how they always definitely make me feel bad, and so it felt like Community was calling them out by illustrating how over-the-top and sensationalized their treatment of rape can be.
For some reason I thought the gas leak was more a way of explaining away the time lapse between seasons 4 and 5. RIght? Because we didn't see the rest of the study group graduate?
Not bad lists, though I've been among the crowd who has thought The Rising has been pretty overrated, especially more recently. It just sounds so…middle-aged to me. And I *am*middle aged so I should like it, right?
I think this is what bothers me about it most. That last CG album was not good. I know people don't love Pitchfork, and the written review of the album had some problems, but I overall, I think they pretty much hit the nail on the head.
Has anyone pointed out how weird it is that a show called Community's central community of characters is disappearing?
WHY CAN'T WE HAVE NICE THING!
I know there's a ton of excitement about Hannibal around these parts, so I'm just reporting that once I'm done watching Season 7 of 30 Rock, I'm going to watch Hannibal.
Let me check my calendar/to-do-list and I'll get back to you. In other words, yes, I do want to write a season 3 review, but I need to make sure I'm going to have time without breaking myself.
Yeah—the Twin Peaks part is pretty weird. Ah, the 90's.
Fair enough. This whole thing, along with working through the new Kanye album, (and Pitchfork's mention of it in a news item on Tyler, the Creator) reminded me of this lovely essay by Lorrie Moore:
Not sure if this means I should or shouldn't start reading the news wires. Read them to be better informed? Or not read them to maintain my ignorant bliss?
You're right! It's not the same thing, and race-be-damned, in my book, it's way worse than what Harmon said.
No, this is actually a pretty good explanation. This particular use of hyperbole definitely stings, though.
It wasn't lovely at all. Harmon's apology was lovely, McGarthy's followup was garbage that basically asked that nobody be held accountable for anything they say ever, oh and "context"!!!!!!
Good post.
Hmmmm….I was actually ready to move on from all of this because of Harmon's heartfelt apology, but McGathy's post really upset me… a lot. Harmon seems to understand this situation, but McGathy doesn't…at all.
