Hmmm
"Ty-RA. RA! THAT'S the Egyptian sun god!"

"Lifetime Piling Up" is easily my all-time #1 Talking Heads song, if not favorite overall. If I ever get married, I'm going to find a way to slip "I can see my lifetime piling up/I can see it smashing into yours/It was not an accident at all/Open your windows up!" into my vows. That's non-negotiable.

"'Mad Dog Time' should be cut into free ukulele picks for the poor" is an amazing Ebert quote. His 0-star reviews make for entertaining reading on slow work days.

Heh I'd help you out, but Arby's gave me one of the nastiest cases of food poisoning I've ever experienced. Second only to when I had salmonella, probably. So you're on your own there, buddy :)

"I can't die now! I have a date with Turkish twins…" is probably one of the greatest lines ever utted in an English dub, though the stuffed fish line is a pretty close second. Shinesman Sepia didn't get too much dialogue, but what little he had was golden. Especially when he comments on their weapons.

Oddly enough…
The best luck I've had introducing people to anime - and we're talking vehement haters of the genre - was a somewhat obscure two-episode OAV called "Special Duty Combat Unit Shinesman." The whole thing is a parody of anime as a whole and comes off as a cross between Dilbert and the Power Rangers. There's

@Racist - I'm happy to agree with you, sir, even if you are an unrepentant racist :) Glad to know there's others out there who really enjoyed Oscar Wao as well.

Well yeah that was my point - Ignatius is supposed to make you go "ewwww," whereas Oscar warrants an "awwww." If you put them side by side, it seems almost like Ignatius thinks of himself as an Oscar-like character when he's really not, and Oscar sees himself more as an Ignatius-like character when HE'S really not.

Goo, you aren't the first person to have that complaint about CoD! A lot of it does hinge on the reader's tolerance for unpleasant and/or isolated protagonists. I thought the lightning pace, absurd humor, and non-idealization of Ignatius's actions made up for the fact that he really was a complete wretch of a man, but

I had to buy a new copy of "Confederacy of Dunces" because so many people were borrowing it everything eventually fell apart. And there were nasty coffee stains all over the front cover. I don't know if I'd consider it "least read" since a lot of high schools and universities have it on their syllabus now (not to

Because we Italians know our way around many, many different kinds of meat.

You can actually buy Yorkie Bars in the US now, but usually only at specialty or larger grocery stores. What's with the "not for women" campaign, anyways? Someone told me it has something to do with the possibility of the bar melting in purses, and that's why women wouldn't want to keep them around. Not sure if that's

But Capicola IS as good as orgasm :P

Flight of the Conchords :)

AJR, you are shitting me…FotC is going to be in Houston while I'm in New Zealand. OH CRUEL, CRUEL IRONY -_-

That's why you go the indy route that Jim suggested. "Shortcomings" would be awful if it got the Hollywood treatment.

Wow Jim, I actually thought the same thing about "Shortcomings" as soon as I ran into Clowes on this list. Wasn't a huge fan of Ben at all, but the graphic novel had a very strong supporting cast that more than made up for him. But the exploration of his crumbling relationship and identity struggles would translate

…and by "Surprised" I mean "surprised [rest of sentence] hasn't been mentioned yet." Go go waking up too late to grab coffee!

Surprised RDJ's inadvertent necrophiliac golden shower in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang."
