When I made the transition from working in a record store to teaching middle school, I was really confused with what my students were calling "emo". I tried to strike up conversation by asking what they thought of Rites of Spring, and they had no fucking idea what I was talking about.

I actually saw them with Get Up Kids AND Jimmy Eat World.

Brother Ali is definitely on my commute home. Afghan Whigs will follow up.

I actually thought that it being a response to Betts was fairly obvious. But hey, whatever.

A local half marathon has fried fish sandwiches for their post-race meal. I don't believe they're from any chain, though.
It's not ideal for everyone. The one I had last year was super soggy, but this year it was very crispy and a much better finish.

I just sort of liked them, until I saw them on this tour, and that's when it hit me how fucking great they were.

I had naturally scrolled righthefuckpast them, but your post made me go back and appreciate the genius.

I have this in the weekend queue as well, based on last week's column.

I thought the release date was the 21st, and it hadn't shown up, but she had the black vinyl available at the show on the 23rd. I didn't expect the sleeve to be signed - I must have overlooked that option.

My pink vinyl showed up yesterday (with a pack of Smarties, oddly enough), but I haven't had the time to listen. It's on deck for the weekend.

I just saw her on Sunday playing these songs before the record came out, so I'm very much looking forward to hearing them on record. They sounded like her vintage self.

That's pretty spot-on, actually. And I thought Tim Robbins did a decent interpretation of Walter Matthau.

I liked The Truth About Charlie, too.

I never liked them, but saw them live four times because they always opened for bands that I *did* like.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, pre-Baby Got Back Mix-A-Lot did actually invest in real estate, so he may actually know what he's doing, unlike Vanilla Ice. Also, this applies to rapping, because I still love Swass to this day.

The Kendrick is…good. Very good, even. A solid B.
Anyone rating it higher is blinded by the name. And I say this as a Kendrick fan who thinks GKMC will end up as one of the best concept/story albums this millenium.

Someone praising Mike Will Made Shit, and doesn't know who Kid Capri is.

I really like the Crystal Fairy record, too.

Not to mention that Tricky remix at the beginning I was never able to find (and then stopped looking for it, so I'm sure it's readily available now).

I got 11 songs into Joey Bada$$ on my ride into work. I skipped 3 of the first 6 tracks, really liked 7-9, then it fell off again. I was simultaneously disappointed, and also certain the AV Club would grade it highly.
