I'll bet everything I own their second choice for the lead was Adrien Brody. Just feels right, somehow.

Holy crap. Now, knowing that Gilbert's voice is part of an act, I have a whole new level of respect for him. Too absolutely commit to that kind of grating persona with just a slight hint of transparency, wow. Thats some Neil Hamburger or Kevin Meaney dedication.

I love PFT, but five goddamn months? Guy is obviously spreading himself too thin to do his own podcast. Lord knows if he gets another tv deal he'll have to make the Tompkast a once a year show.

He's a guy who prides himself on being a douchebag. He thinks it makes him punk and cool; that terrible thing where you combine ego and being repellant. He wears it like a badge, as if he decided one morning as a teenager, "Hey, I'll be jerk. That's how I'll stand out from the crowd!"

The only thing I got from Gottfried on WTF is that although achingly shy he is extremely open to laughter and seems nice.

The only episode from this season I have a distinct memory of is the one hosted by John Lithgow where a whole sketch is built around Buckaroo Banzai, obviously promoting the film and under the belief that it would be a Star Wars'like hit.*

Also, the fight scene in the church was terribly directed. It was just a blur of nonsese, all close-up grimacing and quick cuts.

I think the show has really been spinning in its tracks for a few seasons. The occasional good episode pops up here and there but the dynamics of the Winchester's relationship and the arc of the Big Bad's basically retread the same ground over and over. Deans tried to go normal, now Sam's done it too. Dean's had PTSD.…

Randy Newman and South Park are one and (thanks TreeRol) the same to me. I started out hating the animation & voicework on South Park but often loved the cutting humor; took me a season or two to warm to it completely. Initially found Newman's voice terrible and his music predictable but damn if you give it a chance…

It never ceases to amaze me how goddamn bleary and "serious" Hollywood thinks comic fantasy has to be these days. The choice seems to be either PG-13 grim or too silly (Green Hornet, Wolverine: Origins) with no intelligent, family and hipster friendly in-between. Properties like Lone Ranger or Superman should be light…

Part Two is just routine slasher stuff, but Part Three is fucking amazing.
