'I wake up without warning and go flying around the house, In my sauvignon fierce, freaking out, take a forty-five minute shower and kiss the mirror, and say, look at me, baby, we'll be fine, all we gotta do is be brave and be kind'

Yep. All alone and pissing down you leg. shit man, I hope the magical 'growing' powers of the National kick in for you. If you're a fan of the previous stuff, I'm pretty sure they will.

Lone - enjoy, my man, you'll be hard pushed not to. I saw Frightened Rabbit in Birmingham in March. It was indeed excellent. Poke, Old Old Fashioned, The Twist, Living In Color…all amazing. It was a great gig, but The National last week just about replaced Radiohead at Glastonbury '97 as my 'bestast gig eva'…though

'do, not tell me I've changed, you're just raising your standards'

I hesitate to post this, because the sound quality is so shitty (some guy recorded it on his phone or something and it in no way reflects the sound there, obviously), but it gives a snap shot of the good natured madness of the last two songs:

Nope. It works just as well in the summer. I'm sitting out in the morning sun as I bloody type, Terrible Love blaring away, and it works jussssst fine.

You're right, Sad Songs… is amazing, but don't go leaving out the self titled debut, either, now…

I don't know, I find it hard to get upset by people who say the National are boring, or who just don't like it. One of my best friends is the same way. And really, the only feeling it engenders is pity. Their loss… subjective or not.

Musical success came to them later in life, and took much longer, which might be part of it.

Been unable to listen to anything else for a while now…
Since they started streaming it on the NYT and NPR. And the free Bloodbuzz download… Christ, it's an astounding album. It's truly the best thing I've heard in a while. It knocks The Winter of Mixed Drinks off its 2010 perch with ease, and I thought that would be

IM - Boxer in it's whole did it for me. Just the opening salvo of songs. But now the track from that album that I just can't skip is Apartment Story. I don't know, I never got this 'they're a grower' thing. Fell in love from my first listen. Good luck, though. If it all clicks you're in for a treat with their back

No, he had a composite event and went a bit…funny.

Big fan of the last album…
…but there's nothing wrong with "the quest for earth-shaking bass".

Don't know if you'd have seen this interview she did with the guardian a while back: http://tinyurl.com/39neyxe A good read, I thought.

ortenzia - As far as I know, yeah. He has done for all of her UK shows, and was on her last foriegn tour too. He's played with her for ages, but his solo stuff is just getting noticed outside of the london folk types. He did an amazing life session for BBC radio 6 a week or two ago.

poophat. and youre accusing others of immaturity?

Mumford and Sons are pretty good, but do seem to polarise opinion. I like them. Some friends sure don't…

I wish… but I haven't come across any interviews or articles that can really back up the odd claim that this is going to happen.

"The first time I saw it, I walked out of the movie theater completely stunned. If someone asked me what it was 'about' or even who the main character was, I would have been at a loss. The impact was much more visceral."

Doesn't seem too irrelevant a tale to me. And one thing that happens a lot around here, and in film studies as a subject, at least as far as I've found, is the over intellectualizing of response; as if unless you can tie Laura Mulvey and Lacanian theory to Pretty Woman, or display a working knowledge of post theory
