I can imagine TP would've been disappointing when it first came out, but I only picked it up earlier this year and loved it. Knowing that it was a one-off detour rather than a brand new direction helped, as well as lowered expectations I guess. It's a damn fun album, but I can see how it would've been a bit jarring…

And yeah, the mental image of some old dude shooting out cobwebs is one that's going to be hard to shake.

After listening again, I take it back - this album is definitely as hard-hitting as the last two, just in a more subdued way. I still think the choruses to 'How I Got Over' and 'The Fire' are cheesy as fuck, but I can live with that. Both good tracks, regardless.
