I know a lot of hipsters and none of them know dick about math rock.

Well… the band name is awful. The song is definitely mathy and poppy. I didn't hate it. I don't think I would have bothered to listen if I didn't know about Mike Kinsella… so, good jerb on getting me to listen… but it definitely did not scratch my itch. I would say that post-hardcore is probably more appropriate here

Not knowing the genre and any of the bands? Yeah. I assume if you frequent the A.V. Club and are somehow ignorant of math rock and influential bands like Cap'n Jazz, American Football, and The Dismemberment Plan… you must be living under some kind of rock. Perhaps the mainstream music rock?

I like Loud and Community. and Girls.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not feeling the new Kvelertak. They were a lot more black'n'roll until this new album. This one is all clean and accessible and not really metally at all. I should have been more worried when I saw them signed to Roadrunner for this release.

Is this specific to Ludwig van or do you just live under a rock?

I like some American Football and I really like Cap'n Jazz. Owls though, Owls is pretty awesome.

fuckkkkkk i'm so excited. this is my first time.. i'm all badged up and my schedule is starting to have days attached to bands. also this party looks awesome. yeeeee.

pretty sure Divine Fits and Killer Mike were added before now. I have both of them on my schedule and I haven't worked on it in over a week. Happy about Flaming Lips though. Haven't seen em since the At War with Mystics tour. Now.. if I can just get Quicksand and Mission of Burma (who I'll be missing in Atlanta, while

right there with you. I'm grateful that I got to see them before they got too poppy. Oh, when they could open for Mastodon. Those were the days.

iiiii don't know about this one. I, admittedly, have not listened to the entire thing.. but I have two copies of it sitting in my mailbox. I might give it a try. The thing is, I listened to the first two singles recently and they made me very upset. I like self-titled era Bronx. Ribcage sounded like some 00s pop-punk

Lesser known than that? shit dude, arbogast has less than 400 fans on Facebook. Stallone just put out their first album in the fall, after doing their first few shows over the summer. They have 1500 fans on Facebook. They have a little extra clout since one of their guitarists was in Torche… but still. I work with

I don't doubt their sincerity. There's just something about gimmickry in the metal world that turns me off. I'm admittedly not a metalhead, just a picky enthusiast. I also have ladyparts, if that explains anything.

I don't think these smaller bands have been excluded. I found out about Chrome Waves and Arbogast from the Loud feature and these are smaller Chicago bands that I wouldn't have heard of otherwise.

Kvelertak blew me away. I knew I liked them enough when I went to the show, but didn't expect them to have such a presence. I think I enjoyed them more than Torche, and I've seen them 8 times. I imagine Kvelertak will be touring again very soon though. They were just signed to Roadrunner and have an album set for

Vicarious Redemption, though 19 minutes, is one of my favorites on the album. I think Vertikal works well as a whole and it seems to somewhat fill the void that Isis left in my ear's heart.

I absolutely love the new Cult of Luna. I listened to it twice in a row when it came in the mail. I'm super excited for the upcoming Intronaut and rumors about new Ulcerate! The new Kongh track is promising as well.

Despite seeing Bigelow's name on it, the trailer made this look like some exploitative garbage to avoid.
