When I (briefly) tried to make it as an actor, an agent told me never to believe anyone who claimed they 'never expected to be a star' or 'are only in it for the art', because there's no such thing. It's so damn competitive that EVERYONE at the top worked like hell to get there, no matter what they say.

No 'sorry' is required here. It's light, it's sweet, it's easily digestible and it's delightful. It's the sponge cake of movies, and sponge cakes are the hardest to get right.

I thought the same thing. You might see that kind of thing on the beach in the 30s, but I don't think you'd have seen it on the street like that.

I think owning a Duchamp that once belonged to David Bowie is my new lifelong dream.

Robert Hughes was good for a well-placed zinger. He also described Jeff Koons as the last burst of flatulence in the bloated bowels of postmodernism, or words to that effect.

And in the original cut, he was naked. A big, floppy-eared, half-kangaroo Ice-T with a prosthetic half-kangaroo penis. I'll just let that sink in for a second.

I think my mind also conflated Adventureland with Maeby and George Michael's adventures at the Bluth Banana Stand, which didn't help matters any.

The AV Club

I honestly couldn't name a single sketch she was in, so the worst I could say is that she was unmemorable. If only she'd stayed that way …

The shrill mediocrity of Cheri Oteri did serve to highlight the understated brilliance of Ana Gasteyer a couple of seasons later, though.

Yes on Breuer. Goat Boy definitely marked the point where I stopped being a regular SNL viewer. Awful, awful bit.

It might have been the fact that the old-timers who remained looked so obviously bored. Sandler in particular was phoning it in hard.

To me he will always be Geena Davis' cheating fiancee in Earth Girls Are Easy, which I watched approximately 1000 times as a young teenager.

'Smug and unfunny' is exactly right. He seemed to spend his entire Weekend Updates laughing at how terrible he was. No matter how often people have urged me to reconsider him in the years since he was on SNL, I just can't get over how much I loathed him in that season.

I've stopped automatically confusing him with Michael Cera, so that's a start.

This must have been the season that gave me the deep, deep antipathy to Norm Macdonald that continues to baffle many of my friends to this day.

You might say that not feeling guilty about any of his pleasures is what makes QT the filmmaker he is.

Now, this is what GJI was always supposed to be like, rather than a random assortment of mashups and viral videos. Great job, AV Club!

Exactly. The implication of this story seems to be "If the actress had fit in better, Susan would have become a long term character and unofficial member of the gang." I strongly doubt that.
