I too am an avid baseball fan, and I think the issue comes from the fact that you're a Braves fan, and, '90s excepted, there doesn't seem to be a band of tried-and-true "haters" out there.  Also, you are living in an area where there aren't many fans who root for rival teams, so you're semi-inoculated against the hate.
