Yeah, everyone I know who saw it without having read the comic thought they were all superheroes because of all that stuff, and that the prohibition on costumed heroes was an X-Men-type deal.

That inspired me to look up the AV Club's review of the other Weekend, and the first comment on that review is yours but reversed, which lends a pleasing symmetry to the whole affair for me.

I'm not sure if having a relationship, or whatever, with a 16 year-old counts as borderline paedophilia. Don't get me wrong, it's skeezy as hell, but I'd find it almost as gross if a 40 year old guy dated an 18 year old.

Only Girl in the World was a worthy addition to Xiu Xiu's "Jamie Stewart sings pop standards only it sounds like he's having a nervous breakdown" canon. Also, Always by Erasure.

I loved seeing Jeff Mangum, it was exactly  as good as I'd hoped. There had been expectations that there might be a full Neutral Milk Hotel reunion onstage (this was at his All Tomorrow's Parties, and almost everyone from the band was there in some incarnation or other), but I guess those guys haven't really played

I left my copy of Norwegian Wood in a cafe and never bothered to replace it. It wasn't bad, it just didn't have the deadpan surrealism of most Murakami, which is what I read him for, it turns out.

I read about seven books in the course of reading Infinite Jest. The size of the thing makes it difficult to carry around (that's what yr mom, etc), which means it's easy to just drift off into other things and then drift back, which I found a really good way of reading it. I was never bored by it, and it was

That would be great. Maybe people are right that Vetinari now is too omnipotent to make a good central character, but a novel about his time at the assasin's guild. Or something centering around his election and early days in office.

It seemed really overcooked to me, but I'm not really a fan of the whole fantasy "we must find [thing] to stop [bad guy]! The fate of [place] is in peril!" thing. There were some nice little character bits though.

Yeah, it started off more "lol christians" and morphed into something much darker later on, more about his parents' repression and the rage underlying that. I think some of the stuff in Blue Jam/jaaaaaaaaaam may have been darker tv, but I can't think of much else.
