I have some serious problems with that movie — the Lambdas basically became just as thuggish, as cheating, as exploitative of women as the Alpha Betas they sought to replace on campus.  No one asks the Omega Mus how the felt about the "pie" booth, for starters…

One of the many things I admired about the show was that they never resolved who gave him the beatdown in the bathroom.

And every once in a while, we get the Jeff Probst Seminar on The Sensitive Subject Of Race.

@avclub-21e7a502608c3933ec20028beeedd7b7:disqus , I've been rewatching Outback with my 9-year-old.  The two most striking things are how dominant the non-Colby tribe was until The Injury (which I had forgotten — the dominance, not the injury), and how stupid the tiebreaker was at the first post-merge Tribal.

It was a BLINDSIDE!

In terms of subjective points (this is how we're doing it, right?), I am willing to take a -1 for Cochran's sunburn, if Shamar and Michael get +1s for fire-starting.  Also, perhaps a +1 or +2 to Reynold for Bad-Ass Challenge Performance?  Heckuva comeback on the beanbag toss.

Oh, I found Redemption Island to be immensely satisfying. You can't watch a pitcher throw a no-hitter and then complain that the score wasn't close.

When I think about being penalized for an unplayed HII, I think of Terry Dietz.  We'll figure it out as it happens.

If the show isn't legitimate, the network has ways to shut that whole thing down.

First line of Roger Ebert's review: "Although the premise of "Soul Man" has been greeted with widespread derision, it actually has a lot of potential - even if it has been made into a lame-brained movie."

Bos/NYC/Phila, LA/SF/Sea, Chi/Mpls/Det, Atl/Mia/Memphis, and Toronto?

@avclub-e6c1142acfaceea3982a09641b33fc04:disqus , my favorite ridiculous moment in the film is Douglas' attempts to dance at that club.

It's good regardless of whether you take it seriously or, because it's Verhoeven, you choose to see it as an overheated, deliberate parody of film noir.

Song of the Year is for the songwriting; Record is for the performance.

Also, Chuck D?  Has never won a Grammy.  0-for-5.

Prince is Prince.  If he shows up, you give him ten minutes to do whatever the fuck he wants.

My favorite winner of the night?  Billy Vera, of "and the Beaters" fame, for Best Liner Notes.

I get chills every time I watch it. Still. I'm a grown-ass man, but that thing just shakes me to the core.
