@avclub-eaaf6236c28c668e40fdf9b17394b7ec:disqus , when's the last time we had two tribes merge at relatively even strength with no pre-merge swaps? I think it's South Pacific, where you had the Cochran flip at the merge vote, followed by a thorough Pagonging.

@JudgeReinhold:disqus @avclub-2bf7bb353a1107a5d5c41d1ff4c624cb:disqus It's much better television — and for game strategy — to let survivor choose her new tribe.  Question is whether any protection is granted from being voted out immediately at next tribal, though I guess each tribe has at least one dissenter it'd

Rooting for a repeat of the Stephenie-Bobby Jon tribal council, and then do you let the survivor pick which of the two remaining tribes to join, or go straight to merge?

Yes and no, because it perpetuates the problem by not recognizing the fewer great movies which were made and recognized as awesome at the time.

I think a more thoughtful compilation process gets you more female and black directors and stories without resorting to tokenism.  It's not like Clueless or a Jane Campion film or Malcolm X isn't qualified to make this list.

There's also only one movie on the list predominately about African American characters: Hoop Dreams.  Other than that, what, Pulp Fiction?  Where the hell is Malcolm X or Menace II Society?

I will agree that except for SotL, we're not talking about top ten films but more marginal calls, and some of it is the fault of Hollywood in the directors it champions and the stories it chooses to tell. Sure. It's just weird to have zero female directors and such a massive Bechdel Test #fail.

Another 90s film shockingly missing?  Thelma and Louise.
