And syndicated reruns mattered to us Gen Xers; it's not like today when kids have networks of programming targeting them specifically, so we watched a lot of Gilligan, McHale's Navy, Gomer Pyle, etc.

It aired on Centric earlier this week; it's so damn unsettling. I'm still not sure how I feel about the Moment Of Drama when they rip down the maps to show all the pictures of Adena behind them.

Sing-A-Long 1776
They've done it in Philadelphia at the Visitor's Center for the past few years. Apparently, this musical holds the record for the longest gap between songs in any Broadway musical, and it does kill that first act.

Translation
When He Says: "Well, when you were a kid, you'd see someone like Ann-Margaret, and I'dā€¦ associate certain things with her. She was one of my first celluloid loves. You know how it goes."

As a friend noted
If they cast a white person as Daddy Warbucks, isn't this just Diff'rent Strokes: The Musical? (Also: set this in the Depression, or do a contemporary remake ā€” Warbucks as hip hop mogul who lost touch with his roots?)

I was unduly fond of TREASURE HUNTERS, because a number of the logic puzzles and clues seemed legitimately hard. The big problem was that it seemed clear that producers were spoon-feeding more assistance than they were admitting on-air, but a $3M prize ain't bad.

For those who haven't done so already, the Mormon soundtrack can be downloaded today for $1.99 from a Brazilian-themed e-commerce site. So worth it.

I do not believe we'll be seeing Tracy Morgan hosting the Tony Awards unless a probation officer makes him.

Both Carvey and Shandling were offered the job which ultimately went to Conan O'Brien.

Dr. Jack Shephard's tattoos.

Oh, Amy Fisher
Yeah, that was a scandal. Twitter would have had a field day with her. Love the fact four different tv movies were generated off of that, including ones starring Alyssa Milano and pre-comeback Drew Barrymore.

D'oh. Of course. Shales co-wrote the SNL and ESPN books.

One of my favorite episodes has Gene Siskel, John Ritter and Warren Zevon in it, a trifecta of premature deaths.

Late Night with Garry Shandling
I'm fairly certain Tom Shales reported that offer in The Late Shift. Dana Carvey was also offered the job before they went to Conan O'Brien.

It was the araber!

Is this England?

my other favorite anti-Nazi film
The Lubitsch/Jack Benny TO BE OR NOT TO BE, which kicks the Mel Brooks remake's ass from here to Gdansk.

Okay, so I need to say more: he's clearly game to go anywhere for a laugh. He's smart about reusing odd parts of pop culture for a laugh. He's attractive. And he pretty clearly works hard throughout the weeks he's there, which suggests he'd have the drive to get himself on air if he were there every week.

You know it's true
Had Justin Timberlake joined the SNL cast at age 22 rather than joined N'Sync, he'd have been among the biggest and more memorable breakout stars in the show's history. At *least* Dana Carvey level.
