This is where Peele’s narration really needs to be a little bit meaner like Serling’s could be.

“His name is Harry Pine, he’s 36 years old. He thinks of himself as an actor, but he’s been a salesman, a dispatcher, a truck driver, a con man, a bookie, and a part-time bartender. This is a cheap man, a nickel-and-dime

I dunno.

It has a really great setup, and there’s nice ambiguity with whether the sheriff is a malevolent force, or he’s just systemic racism...but the resolution is way too talky. It’s not brilliant, but I think it’s the one that could have been if they’d done another draft (the whole first season needed a few more drafts).

The 1st one feels a little meaner than what Serling would typically do. But the 2nd one is very nicely humanistic.

Everyone is always down on season 4's hour long episodes, but I genuinely like about half of them.

Replay probably comes closest? But then the 3rd act just doesn’t work (although when it reaches the actual-actual ending that’s pretty good). Other than that I thought president kid and the comedian were the next tier, and after that it’s a sharp drop off.

Wait, Zodiac wasn’t a gritty Columbo reboot?

So was Doom Patrol any good?

Avenue 5 was so bad that it wasn’t even a hatewatch for me. It was almost like a casestudy in “How did these people make this show where every single creative decision is the wrong one?

This review really needed to address the question: is this more or less of a misfire than Avenue 5. From the tone I would guess that this is generally successful as a piece of entertainment, and therefore not like Avenue 5?

...aided in large part by the booming swell of menacing music that intrudes upon the score early on.

It sucks, because I really liked Pike and even Spock mk III in Disco season 2. But Disco season 2 was also garbage.

Honestly, I’m pretty happy that this is a franchise-that-never-was.

I know the insert shot of the hands makes it looks like he’s doing a bunch of stuff, but the end result is pretty much just some crossfades with a few random he-man samples.

I love the movie, but I think it could honestly lose some of the nightclub stuff to shorten it up. There’s so much material in there that it’s practically a movie on its own.

I got an “Edge of Tomorrow” notification for this?

The incredibly slow explanation of his various “shocking secrets” was a complete thud.

I’d be curious to see a count of screentime/lines for the various characters across the various seasons.

I hate Riker warping-in with his copy/paste fleet, and then warping-out 2 seconds before Picard dies, without even knowing that Picard dies.
