To me, the biggest disappointments of the Bat embargo were the lack of The Scarecrow and The Riddler, both of whom have been in The Legion of Doom. It would have been fun to have Jeffrey Combs playing The Scarecrow again. He was so good in "Never Fear" that I wish we'd seen his interpretation of the character more

That's a good point about Franco. I've been saying the same thing. I watched "The Pineapple Express" last year (better late than never) and I think it has his best performance outside of this show. He always seemed more comfortable doing comedy and kind of awkward trying to play a brooding type in the Spider-Man

Itchy sticking scissors into Scratchy's brain, then pulling them out with his brains attached (while Scratchy looks at the camera and drools) is the only time I thought their violence was truly disturbing, not just funny. Even thinking about it makes me cringe.

I agree. That's why I thought this episode was very overrated, even though I liked most of it. I found the season 3 finale much stronger and consider it the high point of the series.

Him weeping over the love of wash bucket, then abruptly stopping and saying, "YEP" was one of the funniest moments in recent seasons.

There's also "Witness For the Prosecution" (with one of the best twist endings ever, multiple twists actually, all brilliant), "The Lost Weekend", "Stalag 17", and "A Foreign Affair", which are all great.

This is a show that just keeps on giving when you go back to its classic seasons. I still discover new things in its best early episodes years later, and it even rewards me for becoming more knowledgeable about movie history as I get older.

I love how they parody Jimmy Stewart in this show. He was such a goofball with his drawling voice. I could never take him seriously in his movies and always find it rather baffling how the rest of the world seemed to think he was a great leading man.

I'm so glad the site has a new reviewer for my favourite season of this series.

Poor guy. I felt so sorry for him when he said his leg was broken. I don't think I've ever seen a more sympathetic villain. It's a testament to how well-written and well-acted this character was that I could feel so much pity for someone who (in the very same story) does something as despicable as kidnapping someone

And I think this was probably the only time the producers/animators got the colour coding they wanted on their "Batman: The Animated Series" Robin. Bruce Timm complained on one of the commentary tracks that they could only get a bluish sort of green in the past. You can see a noticeably darker green in this feature,

It's crazy the amount of abuse this character took. "Heart of Ice" re-invented him beautifully, then "Batman & Robin" made him into a joke again. This movie brought back his more dignified interpretation, then (surprisingly) the animated series crew was responsible for ruining him AGAIN with that horrendous "Cold

I watched the show again not too long ago. I'm pretty familiar with the characters, even ancillary ones. April's boss was a fat, loudmouth, womanizing slob who ate like a pig, hated turtles (eating turtle soup was supposed to reflect that), and dated bimbos. So basically, this is some spot-on casting.

Personally, I thought she looked like a young Holly Hunter.

I was quoting the show. It's what I do. =)

Just because a girl is pretty doesn't mean that she's cool.

Well he could have just sampled a few key episodes (maybe 10 or so) and then written a sort of overview piece based on them.

I'm surprised that this wasn't written by Handlen. In the comments sections of his Star Trek reviews, many agreed that watching every episode of this series would be a slog, but maybe some kind of overview would be nice for the fans of it. I agree with that.

Thanks for reviewing this. Most fans of "Batman: The Animated Series" seem to like "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" more, but even if this is technically three episodes, I still consider it a better movie and to this day the best one to feature Batman (animated or live action). I just love the character interactions

Since when is Stewie gay? Was that ever established officially (I stopped watching a few seasons ago)? I thought he was just eccentric and effeminate sometimes, but not gay. After all, he's had crushes on girls, like Janet and his babysitter.
