Wednesday What's on tonight: unoffical UK freeview edition

I did flag up the GBBO when the series started but I got the wrong day (!) and after that I decided to leave it alone.   It's one of those soothing cuddly shows, like Grand Designs, but not one I make the effort to tune in for.

Tuesday What's on tonight: UK freeview version:

Well it's not great.   It has one memorable exchange:

Hey, I think that was something I said.

He was great on C4's new panel game too (Was It Something I Said, on last night).

My Dad liked Rumpole of the Bailey IIRC.

Master and Commander has two unambiguously great bits; the first is the matter-of-fact way that they give little kids serious military missions and responsibilities.    The second is the weevil racing.

Hmm.   I read a fair amount of SF and I don't think I've even heard the term Afrofuturism before today, so I'm not hugely surprised if it's only 20 years old.   The only name I recognise here is Samuel R Delaney, who's noted more for his groundbreaking integration of sexuality in his work than his race.

I caught up with AoS on Friday.   I'm still enjoying it personally, but I understand that others were hoping for more.   I think it helps that I'm not so wildly enthused about The Avengers as most people.

I love Candyman so much and I haven't seen it for a while.   The best horror films blend their supernatural and quotidian nightmares, and Candyman is all about that.

I watched that too.   It took 58 minutes just to get to the premise, which was exhausting.

You have all of Justified to look forward to?   Lucky you!

No love for Ashes Of Time?   Wikipedia informs me it was a commercial fiasco but I watched the redux version and thought it was great.

Monday What's On Tonight: UK edition
Home grown: Sex Box (10pm C4 Monday)   *sings* Sex Box Sex Box!   Dan Savage is on a programme called Sex Box.

That you lent an addict a thousand dollars and got it back suggests you may have an undiscovered talent for gambling.   Like, an Intacto level talent.

Here's Stuart Heritage's open letter to open letters:

This is what I read the AV club for, stuff that's good I haven't heard of yet.   I'll look out for this one.

I've read 17, of which one is a poem and two regular magazines (of which I have only read some issues or extracts, for obvious reasons).

I really enjoyed the White Queen but no one else seems to have paid it any attention.
