I think I read Kevin Feige said somewhere GofG might be a different "time" ? So not entirely in synch with the current events. 

I guess in that way, he really was like the Mandarin of the comics.  I think I actually wanted a bit more modern day socio/political/new-media commentary beat over my head and squeezed into an already 2 and a half hour movie

I try not to split hairs with comic book movies, but I did like all preceding (ten rings) easter eggs were rendered slightly moot.

Sure! Forgive me if you've heard any of these, and they're a bit all over the spectrum, but:

An old friend of mine used to treasure those books as you do, as his father would sit and read them all to him when he was sick with fever.  He lamented that after the films came out, during his annual re-reads, his imagination won't allow for anything but the actors' voices to fill his head.

In middle school I couldn't read enough Bradbury. "Something Wicked…" was a great introduction, immediately followed by Halloween Tree, the Illustrated Man, The Martian Chronicles…

Agreed.  Much as I find myself wanting to give lukewarm praise to the designer for, I dunno, liking the same stuff I like?  There's such an overflow of how easy this "re-imagining" is, especially when you get it wrong.

That's a great breakdown.  I kind of forget that The Shield suffered from that peculiar bug that was going around where good shows were having their seasons split up, renewal concerns, behind the scenes problems, writer's strike, etc…
