You're totally right about the Mary Sue-ing of Cold, but he's just so much fun!
And on this show, I can forgive a lot of things if it adds a bit of humor to the dour scenes of people discussing the grave future.

Captain Cold has been the MVP every episode so far. Difference between him and half the cast? He has a personality that shines through every scene he's in. Both due to the lines he's given, but also because the actor sells everything through body language and inflection.
