Yeah, 'Ghostbusters' for me is squarely in that concept of, "Okay, we're making a comedy. What's a cool idea to make a comedy about? How about ghosts?" It's the same as 'Young Frankenstein'; that's definitely a comedy, not a monster movie with some chuckles.

Eh. Is that just a case of looking back with nostalgia glasses? We remember the classics, but I'd say going back to the 80s and 90s, and probably earlier, you'd find a tonne of movies at the "didn't suck moose balls" level. It's just the nature of the beast.

Ditto on looking forward to Black Panther. On that subject, if that film doesn't include a scene of Chadwick Boseman shirtless, then Marvel has no idea what it's doing.

There are some really funny lines in the film that are just the sort of thing you can't put in a trailer. The opening scene is set in a historic mansion, with a tour guide mentioning all the absurd luxuries the place was built with. I won't spoil the jokes, but they're solid. They also have no place in a trailer,

I just imagined you in some sort of group therapy session:

It's always a "your results may vary" situation, and some nods work better than others. All I'll say is I grinned like an idiot when the words "total protonic reversal" were spoken.

Same, if you swap "Europe" for "Australia".

Kids these days will never understand the need to hold down the tracking button because their memories are jumping all over the place.

I had the same thought after I saw the movie last night: "There's very little ghostbusting in this 1984 Ghostbusters movie." And it works to sell the increasing mundanity of the job; I particularly like the bit where Janine is on the phone grabbing details about a ghost in a very bored voice. For better of for worse,

That Egon reaction in the elevator is gold. People talk about how great Murray is in the film - and he is - but for my money Ramis is the MVP. (See also: "Your mother!")

I'm just gutted the demon dog came out as early as it did. We were this close to seeing them play Parcheesi.

"The ghost is … tickling him. He's trying not to laugh." - Ricky Coogin's parents, c.1984.

It sure worked for Ray.

…two things?

"Then why am I watching it?"
"Because it's on TV!"
"Not yet."

I think you're missing the point; we need Scotty distracting male crew members with displays of sauciness.

"Sci-fi is about progression, not doing the same damn shit over and over"

It's definitely not a "one side's right, one side's wrong" situation. Perhaps the most telling thing about this is that Pegg et al just assumed that Takei, being gay himself, would be thrilled about the change, which comes close to just reducing the man to his sexuality and/or activism.

And then something bad happens!

Can you speed it up at all? I'm not happy with the current state of human thought.
