Also, good Lord, the shock of reading Red Harvest—and much later, seeing The Glass Key—after practically having committed every shot in Miller's Crossing to memory. I don't agree with Ethan that the movie is "just a rip-off," but boy did they borrow with both hands.

"I know what you are. Straight as a corkscrew. Mr. Inside-outski, like some goddamn Bolshevik picking up his orders from Yegg Central. You join up with Johnny Casper, you bump off Bernie Bernbaum: Up is down, black is white. Well, I think you're half-smart. I think you were straight with your frail, I think you were

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't think "influence" figures in at all, except perhaps unconsciously. Given all the horrible bullet-time knockoffs it inspired, The Matrix would probably be wiped off the list if influence were factored in.

Digital Johnny. Real Johnny. Digital Johnny. Real Johnny.

I think its message is enhanced by the fact that the movie also functions as straight action. Subversion only works if there's something to subvert.

Um, exactly where in Naked does Leigh imply that Johnny is, in any way, "OK"? The movie has its flaws—Greg Cutwell's performance is horribly overstated, and the rape scenes proliferate until your reaction is no longer horror or discomfort but, "Here we go again"—but Thewlis pretty squarely puts the anti- in antihero.

Wasn't the shot of the Twin Towers originally planned for the end of S4?

Question: Have they ever tied the existence of the observers to Walter's original experiment, which at this point functions as the Fringe universe's original sin? Now that we know the Observers are human, or what some slice of humanity eventually becomes (or wioll haven become), that connection almost has to be made

Liking so far how the season (both episodes of it) is focused on the very unscientific quality of hope, especially contra the rational assumption that there is none. So much of the show has been about trying to save and/or change the future, and now they've gotten there and it's worse than ever.

They've said that will be explained some time this season. We've barely seen any (if at all) female loyalists, either, which seems odd.
