Its okay to parody Kung Fu movies, but I think dressing up your all white cast on your all white (and one guys LITERALLY playing the token black guy) show in stereotypical asian outfit is racially insensitive.

It definitely feels like a relic of the "Friends Era" sit-com that tried to make white people feel comfortable about NYC. It is definitely problematic.
I remember in an interview Marty talked about how included that shot because he couldn't bear to look at the character in that moment. Your interpretation seems spot on as well.
My personal favorite is him begging the girl on the phone. I love how the camera pans away from him like its to embarrassed to keep watching. Its possible the greatest second hand embarrassment scene in cinema
Most of tumblr hates it for not including people of color.
I'm disappointed that Phoenix didn't get a nod for best actor.
I am incredibly annoyed that Llewyn Davis was ignored. That might have actually been my favorite movie of the year. I thought the academy loved the Coens?
Random drug addiction is probably the original "Fuck it, we're out of ideas for this character" plot line. Not to say it can't be done well, but considering they track record with Laurel I highly doubt that.
Being a formal Supernatural fan I have grown to despise shipping over the years….but goddammit I just want those two kids to get together.
*Someone Like You by Adele begins playing*
"Are you apologizing to me or your quiver?" was probably the line of the night for me.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at that…ugh. They really don't know what to do with her.
The AV Club grades relative to the average quality of the show. If Shield turned out an episode of this quality it would probably get an A.
Yeah that felt a lot like a season one scene and kind of through me for a second.
Solid episode overall. I like that they're allowing Laurel not to be stupid and just giving her something to do in general. I was worried they were going to have her fall in love with Brother Blood unknowingly and become some damsel in distress, now that doesn't seem so likely. However…I'm not sure her being the only…
See I always found Paulie to be the most slimey, he kind of scared me from the start.
See Lord Lucan's comment below.
See I never found Tony to be as magnetic as some of his many sociopathic successors. I basically hated him from about the midpoint of season 1 onwards. He was a miserable fuck, a fascinating miserable fuck, but not a like able fuck.
Todd's Sopranos reviews are some of the best writing he's ever done for the site. I would say only his Deadwood reviews top them.
Like a certain television meth cook your hubris will lead to the destruction of your life and those you love!
