What on earth gave her the idea that her characters are not likeable??? Who can resist a gal who has her mentally unstable brother whacked?
Countless movies featuring straight white folks have flopped (inevitably, since those make up the vast majority of movies) and no one tries to blame their failures on people being tired of films about straight white men.
To be fair , if you’re pissing off Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, its a good sign you’re doing something right.
If you’re going to start doing articles like this, I’m out.
“Notwithstanding the complexities of a gesture that would hardly be remarked upon if it were cisgender”
At least they didn’t release it in the form of a fucking slideshow. Good lord, what drugs are the mgmt on?
“Clyde Frog shows how to safely burn a cross.”
Don’t forget the surprisingly explicit sex scene with Bert & Ernie. This episode was all over the map.
It was a great year for BP nominees. Someone had to win, and it sure doesn’t diminish Pulp Fiction or Shawshank (or Quiz Show, for that matter - a great movie). Nor should anyone be stunned that PF was considered a little much by the Academy. In retrospect I’d say Shawshank should have taken the prize.
I think I would run with if I was a celebrity. Post insta pics of myself with dummy babies with fake blood smeared all over my mouth. #fountainofyouth #delicious #nwo
I would actually say the opposite. 1994 was a particularly strong year, in my memory. In addition to what was already mentioned, we had Lion King, Speed, True Lies, Wolf, Maverick, Reality Bites, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Ref, The Crow, The Mask, Hoop Dreams, Clerks, Stargate, Heavenly Creatures, The…
I’d post something goofy like, “Here’s a pair of shoes I saw in the middle of the street,” and the third comment would be, “[Expletive] you, Hanks.” I don’t know if I want to give that guy the forum.
No but then you have that scene where Jenny is abused by her activist boyfriend, and the Black Panthers are likewise portrayed as militant thugs. The message definitely seems to be that the liberal ideology of the 60s was inherently corrupt, and Gump is a hero because he does what he’s told, serves obediently and…
I watched it for the first time in probably 20 years, not long ago, and was amazed at how badly it has aged, and how reactionary and conservative its politics are in portraying simple, obedient Gump as the hero, while any hippie or liberal is violent or drug abusing.
“leapfrogging all over the world” ?
Samantha knows a thing or two about the importance of pulling out at the nick of time.
A New Leaf is fantastic & that owes a lot to the performance of Elaine May herself, as well as the reliably terrific Walter Matthau. Just a much better comedy pairing than Beatty & Hoffman
They probably figure that there’s not enough of us old timers left here to notice or raise much of a stink about it.
Ishtar is not great. It’s not even good. A New Leaf, on the other hand, is exactly as good as it’s cracked up to be.
