Erin? THAT Erin? Erin Marquis? Are you back?
“Tesla” and “Dangerously” in the same sentence.
Got it — thanks, and good point! Replied to you on this but in an earlier comment.
You are correct — it would package (!), and give a longer bed / shorter cab. The tooling bill for the “unibody on frame,” including the bed, would be enormous, however.
I got caught in the “offered” trap (as opposed to “standard”. Shame on me. Replied to my own post somewhere here with words to that effect as well.
You just made the very best prediction of all, which I should have noted in my post: It’s a long way off, still, and much is bound to change before it reaches production.
And he goes to a Motel 6 looking for a charger, then blames GM when he doesn’t find one.
The Viper alarm. A product of Darrell Issa. Yes, that Darrell Issa.
In before everybody else:
Reply to my own post: You can likely have your WT @ $40k, or your WT with 400 mile range. Likely not both in one vehicle.
Right? It reminds me of the days when the Escalade was the hottest thing out there (T900 version). NO ONE expected it to be a hit, least of all GM. Lightning rarely strikes twice, and so much can happen between now and when these things actually become available. In the meantime, I’ll be watching the Hummer EV sales /…
They can do a “tow charge” like “The Long Way Up” with the Harley Livewire motorcycles! (LOL)
A year away, so they’re still workin’ on it...
“offered” is the key word in the fine print. I’m guessing now you’re correct, and I’m not.
I suspect that’s what they’re counting on! :-)
Ya, doing only $100k trucks will get them nowhere. The fancy-watch / gold chain crowd now have their 1,000 hp Hummers, so how about something for the rest of us, and soon, please?
I had a look at the ghost images of the pack layout -- it runs pretty much from driver’s feet to just shy of the rear axle, and full vehicle width. They can make a shorter range version with a crew cab, but the 400-mile version can't fit under the cab + bed for a single row cab.
For sure. For the right customer, the WT version will make a lot of sense -- the cost and capability should be a good fit for enough customers to make it worth GM’s while.
Good notes. I suspect they’re be a WT for $40k, but with less than 400 miles of range. The damn thing is still a year away, so likely they’re still working out the details on the base model / base battery.
