That’s my issue. I’m not an EV hater or an EV evangelist. Also, I too have a GTI (Rabbit Edition).

Assuming one lives in a single family home or town home, how much does it cost to install a home charger? An EV without one doesn’t make much sense. I understand that its a lot unless you happen to have a free and open 240v circuit. So for me, its the price of the car plus the home charger.
Wow! Most airlines charge extra for that!
I get that victim blaming is wrong, but also not 100% wrong in all cases.
This is one of my worst nightmares. Aside from having long legs and enjoying the extra leg room, I always pack so I can avoid having to place a bag under the seat in front of me for this very reason. I have zero faith that other travelers will be clean and hygienic and even less faith that the cleaning crews do a…
What about that series of complaints doesn’t apply to their newest ICE vehicles?
Sounds like would be on Spirit:
“and [the car] tracks all your movements with no way to opt out or find out where that information is going?”
Yeah...I buy cars with cash, but current EV’s only make sense to me as leases because emerging tech is going to crush their cost of ownership equation. I can see hitting the well depreciated used market for a crap can Leaf for the kid. But I am waiting for the right circumstance if real money is to be spent.
ewww I cleaned police cars and thought that was bad
Weird. Normal people don’t want to buy a $50k car with 7% interest rates, tech that’s outdated faster than a modern smartphone, a business model that’s constantly pushing microservices, and tracks all your movements with no way to opt out or find out where that information is going?
They cost more and the tech isn’t good enough yet. It’s getting better and some people can justify them but for many there are still far too many inconveniences compared to what they currently own.
To make things much much, unfathomably, insanely worse, they were reportedly on a full flight and couldn’t change seats. So they had to sit in their original seats for the rest of the flight
That passenger deserves a full refund of the cost of the tickets, plus reimbursement of cleaning expenses and some sort of punitive damage compensation for having to put up with such an intolerable situation.
I would guess the concern would be that any single company that is in unilateral control of a standard creates a singular point of failure for the whole exercise. And when said point of failure is erratic and subject to large mood swings, maybe there’s an additional cause for concern.
I tried EA chargers twice (with the adapter) and neither time was successful. They were out of service the first time and it just didn’t work the second (still don’t know what the issue was...maybe a handshake issue but it wouldn’t charge). I gave up and never tried again and go out of my way to hit a Supercharger.…
They’re absolutely hyperbole and just riding the Elon Musk hate train.
This entire premise of this article is based on a misunderstanding of what’s going on and what NACS is.
Right, this isn’t Musk gaining control, it’s just the major automakers admitting, that yeah the OTHER EV charging networks are kind of garbage. I said this in another article the MAIN reason for Tesla’s success is almost 100% the charging network. They are head and shoulders better than any of the competing networks…
I think it all comes down to consumers just liking things that work well and disliking things that don’t. They really don’t care about the reasons behind what works and doesn’t, the excuses for what doesn’t in particular, or any of the other nuances that might come into play.
