It’s so odd that conservative places like NC, GA, and TX that hate regulations and love private property and personal freedom fume about the government but are happy to submit to the absurd and arbitrary authority of an HOA.

Didn’t they start as a way to keep “undesirables” (ie people of color, unwed mothers, people of a lower income bracket, etc) out of white middle class neighborhoods?

I am one of those who refuse to even consider a house with a HOA. There are far too many nightmare stories like this.

I’ve said this before in other HOA related threads: I’ll take 10 David Tracy’s over one meddling, self-important, busybody with delusions of grandeur. DT would roll up his sleeves and help you out in a pinch, while the HOA needledick would be writing up citations for whatever the issue is.

You described me perfectly. If I saw HOA, I turned on my heel and walked away. It was an immediate deal-breaker. Usually didn’t even go inside because there is no countertop or open concept that could make up for Nosy Nancy and Bored Bob rolling around in their golf cart.

If you like freedom, don’t live in an HOA.

I browse house listings occasionally and “No HOA” is always touted as a big, positive selling point. I agree, which is why I bought an older house without one.

I am lucky and don’t have an HOA.  There’s no way the property value would go up because of one. I think it’s a load of crap and HOA’s have way too much power.

So pretty much the same as it is now for everyone who walks around staring at their phones and ignoring fuck all everything around them.
