Hahahaha, my best memory of Clueless was when I had an existential crisis on my 20th birthday and made a promise that by the time I graduated college that insult would no longer apply to me! Incidentally, I now just can't drive.

He also helps produce Awkward Black Girl so I can't hate him. I just can't.

That's what I don't understand though, ashen is not a skin color, it's a pallor. As in, you look really unhealthy and grayish, like a pile of ashes! So someone could technically be ashen with any skin color, right?

Precisely. These books were written in times that were problematic, so of course they have problematic elements. But if I was going to not watch/read anything that came from a racist or sexist standpoint, the entire Western cannon would be out!

I feel the same way. I see the problematic aspects of both novels, but still love them. I don't know why it has to be EITHER you love Jane Austen and she is the Holy Grail of all things satirical OR you love the Brontes and are woefully misguided in what you think is romantic/compelling as well as being

A controlling ex who no longer had the means/will/desire to be controlling. To ignore that Rochester underwent character development doesn't help your argument, Jane is only able to stay with him once he has been humbled by his loss of wealth, limbs, and sight. Their relationship is certainly codependent, but to paint

This one pisses me off than most others do...I'm not sure if I can articulate precisely why, but it seems so...aggravating! I would rather listen to Karmin on repeat for two hours than listen to that one more time.

Agh, no it frustrates me to no end. I love 30 Rock, but sometimes I feel like it's a more perfect example of lack of representation/misrepresentation than Girls is.

In my opinion, Tracy Jordan is a bad character, but it's written off because the show also has Grizz, Toofer, and Dotcom, characters who in some ways subvert what it means to be a black male in certain contexts. But Angie is pretty much the sole black woman on the show, and not only that, but Cookie Mueller's Day Off

30 Rock for all its brilliance is pretty horrible to black women. This is just an observation from a black woman, however there are some points when it becomes uncomfortable, especially with Angie.

I walked out of Ted this summer, but because the audience started being extremely rude to a woman who brought in a baby. People shaming parents is one of my biggest pet peeves, as is group chanting. After telling them to shove it, I left and got my money back.
